Surroundings Balatonfüred
Balatonfüred is the venue of the Formula 18 Worlds is situated not far from Tihany peninsula on the Northern shore, within 125 km distance from Budapest. As a famous holiday resort it is very crowded in the peak season. This old resort, where the Hungarian yachting activity started with a regatta organised in 1886 has been the Balaton headquarter of Hungarian Yachting Association and hosted a lot of big sailing events almost for every Olympic class. Besides sailing there are a lot of other possibilities of entertainment around Lake Balaton. The Organising Committee will provide information to you.

Balatonfüred is a small town with a population of 13.500. It is an ancient settlement which was already inhabited during the reign of the Roman Empire. Ancient residential districts, old buildings, churches, intimate vineyards, parks and old trees send their message to the people of our present time.
Balatonfüred has been the first health resort since 1971, when the Füred’s sour water was acknowledged as thermal spa. In the famous Heart Hospital of Füred a lot of people regained their health. Among them was the Indian poet Rabindranath tagore who recovered here in 1926 and the promenade along the lake’ shore was named after him.
Balatonfüred and its surroundings are thanks to their geographical features a paradise for tourists. They may head almost any direction – they find beautiful natural treasures everywhere. The length of the tours can range from a short walk in the Koloska Valley to a long tour to Zador Castle in Pecsely.
In the Balaton-Plateau region the tradition of viticulture has got a century old history. It is showed in the programmes in Balatonfüred as well: Fish and Vine Festival in June, Wine weeks in August, and the Vintage parade in September.
